Binhai New Area

Binhai New Area is located in the coastal areas in eastern Tianjin, in the middle of the Bohai Economic Circle. It covers 2,270 sq km in area and accommodates 2.97 million permanent population.  Binhai New Area is a base for R&D and transformation of modern manufacturing industry and an international shipping and logistics centre for northern China. This area has been built into a liveable and ecological new district, enjoying the good reputation of “the third growth pole in China”. In 2005, the Eleventh Five-Year Plan made Binhai New Area part of state development strategy. In 2014, Binhai New Area was entitled with Free Trade Zone status, becoming the first free trade zone in north China. Binhai New Area’s transportation extends in all directions with Yujiapu high-speed rail station and line 9 connecting it with Beijing and Tianjin downtown respectively. There are also streetcars operating within this area and line B1, Z2, Z4 under planning and construction for outreach to Tianjin downtown and surrounding areas. Binhai is home to TEDA MSD, Xiangluowan and Yujiapu commercial areas.
