High-tech

The Chengdu Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone, set up in 1988, was nominated as one of the first zones of the state-level hi-tech development project in 1991. The hi-tech district is comprised of two parks: the South Park and the West Park. The South Park , which consists of the Chengdu Tianfu Software Park (built in 2010), focusses on creating a modernized service industry of finance and business service, technology and R&D, software outsourcing, and commercial exhibitions. The Tianfu Software Park, a government project, is one of the largest in China and is the de facto capital of Chengdu’s booming IT industry. The West Park is aimed at creating a comprehensive industrial park that targets industrial business with complete supportive capabilities, such as IT generation, bio-pharmacy, hi-end equipment manufacturing, energy saving, and environment protection. The famous Global Centre, Chengdu New International Conference & Exhibition Center in Chengdu Century City and Chengdu Finance Headquarters Business Unit are all located in the park boundaries. At the end 2012 there were over 33,000 different companies and over 50 Fortune Global 500 companies based in the Hi-tech zone. The Hi-tech district of Chengdu has a well-developed transportation network and supporting infrastructure. Both the Western and Southern are within a thirty minute commute of Shangliu International Airport and the North Railway Station. The district is also served by metro lines 1, 5,6,7,9, and 18.
