Xuhui

Xuhui District is centred in Xujiahui, which is the main sub-district of the southwest part of Shanghai.  It borders Jing ‘an and Chang ‘ning Districts to the north, Huangpu District to the northeast, Minhang District to the south, and situates west of Huangpu River, facing Pudong District and connected to Pudong by Xupu Bridge. Once among the top residential districts of Shanghai, the district has since been redeveloped, following municipal government planning in the 1990s, into a commercial centre. With the arrival of a number of large-scale shopping malls the area is now a major shopping destination within Shanghai – Grand Gateway Shanghai and Pacific Sogo are two of the area’s major developments. Xuhui is particularly well known due to its education facilities. Home to Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the top ranked university in China, and multiple other highly ranked municipal secondary schools. There is also a vibrant science and technology environment in the Xuhui district with developments such as the Xuhui Software Park,  the Science-and Technology Enterprise Incubator and numerous other industrialization organizations all attracting a large amount of science-and-technology businesses. The district’s transport grid is a criss-cross of well-developed railways, fairways and flyovers. All of which are key traffic thoroughfares that connect downtown Shanghai with the outer districts of Minhang, Fengxian, Pudong, Qingpu. There are also main thoroughfares to the neighbourhood provinces such as Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Anhu. Xuhui district is served by seven metro lines: 1,3,4,7,9,10 and 11, as well as being serviced by the Jinshan Railway.
