Yuexiu

Yuexiu District, the commercial, political and cultural centre of Guangzhou, is situated to the west of the Tianhe District east of the Liwan District. The district contains both the Guangzhou provincial government and the Guangzhou city government and encompasses the oldest quarter of downtown Guangzhou. The region is also known for its high quality education with a number of international school campuses found in the district. Yuexiu claims home to the city’s most prestigious commercial districts with a number of high-end shopping areas – Guangzhou Beijing Road, Haiyin area, Hero square and Yibe Road are all considered a shoppers paradise. The business opportunities created around some of the older commercial streesthave been accredited with birthing the first generation of the Chinese nouveau riche in the early 1980s, when many people left their government jobs to set up their own businesses. Aside from the commercial side of the district there are also a number central business areas - East Huanshi Road International Central Business district, Dongfeng Road Modern Service Zone, and Liuhua Subdistrict Exhibition area – located throughout the area. Yuexiu is served by metro lines 1, 2 and 5, operated by the Guangzhou Metro.
